Does it fit the camera I am renting from you?

Yes. Both bodies we rent are RF mount — the Canon R6 Mark II and the R8 — so the lens fits either. Renting it alongside a kit is the usual combination: the kit's 28-70 covers the wide end, this one covers close-ups and low light.

Do I need a tripod for the close-up shots?

For static subjects a tripod helps, but the built-in stabiliser means handheld works far more often than people expect. We do not rent tripods, so if the shoot needs one, plan to bring your own.

Is it good for video?

Yes — f/1.8 and the stabiliser make it one of the easier lenses to shoot handheld with in low light. The STM motor focuses quietly, which matters when the camera's own microphone is recording.

What renting costs

You book and pay on Gearbooker. At checkout it adds a service fee of about 25% (at least €4.95); insurance is part of that fee. You see the exact total before you pay.

Every rental is insured for the replacement value of the gear. If something breaks, you pay 10% of the damage, at least €195.

There is usually no deposit. Gearbooker sometimes asks for a refundable one at payment and returns it within 5 to 7 working days after the rental.

One lens for a whole day out

35mm on full frame sits close to what you see without a camera: wide enough to keep a street, a café table or a room in the frame, narrow enough that faces do not stretch at the edges. It is the focal length people reach for when they do not want to think about lenses at all — a day in Amsterdam, a family afternoon, a market, a walk that might turn into portraits.

Because it is a prime it is small and light, which matters more than it sounds. A camera you keep on your shoulder gets used; a camera in the bag because the lens is heavy does not.

Macro, stabilisation and low light

The 1:2 macro means an object fills half the frame at its real size — enough for rings, flowers, food, jewellery, watch dials and product detail. It is not the 1:1 of a dedicated macro lens, so an insect's eye is out of reach, but for the close-ups most rentals are actually for, it gets there without a second lens or a set of tubes.

Optical stabilisation buys you a few stops handheld, and f/1.8 buys you the rest. Together they are what makes this lens work indoors in the evening: a restaurant, a living room, a bar, a church without flash. The same combination is why it is a good lens for handheld video — the image stays steady enough to walk with.

It is one of the few lenses where the close-up work and the wide work happen without swapping anything: turn the focus ring, and the same lens goes from a room to a ring.
